Lisa Garrison
Veterinary Technology Faculty
Having worked as a veterinary assistant for eight years, Lisa Garrison knew she had a passion for veterinary science and went back to school to pursue her degree in veterinary technology at Northern Virginia Community College. With her degree in hand, she returned home to Delaware and quickly learned Delaware Tech was starting their own vet tech program at the Owens Campus. She jumped at the opportunity to get in on the ground floor, joining the staff as an adjunct instructor in the program in 1998.
“I was so excited for the opportunity to share my knowledge and passion for the profession,” said Garrison. “I applied for an adjunct position and have been a part of the program since it began.”
After six years as an adjunct, Garrison knew Delaware Tech was where she was meant to be. She became a full-time instructor in 2004. Now, after more than 25 years at the College, she has never been more passionate about her work educating students who are committed to veterinary technology and the growth and advancement of the profession.
She has many positive memories of her time working with students and seeing them achieve their goals when they graduate from the program. And she takes great pride in the impact she has had on their lives.
“My favorite memory is the fact that with every veterinary technology graduate, I have had the pleasure of educating them in some way and being a part of their success,” said Garrison.
In addition to her in-classroom role, Garrison also serves as an advisor to the College’s Veterinary Technology Club (VETTECH), which provides extracurricular opportunities and activities to students enrolled in the veterinary technology program.
Garrison holds an Associate in Applied Science from Northern Virginia Community College, a Bachelor of Science from St. Petersburg College, and a Master of Education from Wilmington University. Off campus, she enjoys spending time with friends and family and exploring new places, especially the great outdoors. She can also be found participating in CrossFit programs or training for a half-marathon.
